I painted some art for the Arrow Films limited edition of THE LIGHTHOUSE by Robert Eggers. In many ways the perfect assignment, and one I was thrilled to be thought of for. I rewatched the film 8 times over a few days, and let myself be lost in it while doodling in my notebook before painting the final art in acrylic and ink. Thank you to Robert Eggers, Arrow Films, and Michael Mackenzie.
I finished painting the pages for my next graphic novel with Flesk Publications last week. Whenever I finish a project I immediately think that I should redo it, as I’ve learned so much in the making of it, and I could do a better job of it now. There’s so much left to learn, and I hope I have the years left in my life to grow as an artist and writer in the ways that I hope to. Next up is working with a letterer to find a type that integrates with the art, painting the cover, and then letting John Fleskes work his magic.

Some more private commissions done for collectors via Felix Comic Art. I love working on these, and the excuse they give me to buy a lot of comics for research.
I illustrated Schindler’s Ark by Thomas Keneally for Suntup Editions. Possibly the hardest job I’ve ever had, to research this book and part of history and keep my head in that world for months. I hope my work is a respectful accompaniment to the book and to the memory of those within the pages. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center.
I was thrilled to be asked to paint the cover for my friend Priya Sharma’s new novella Pomegranates for PS Publishing. It’s a wonderful book - check it out.
And that’s it for this infrequent edition of the newsletter. Look for the light in the darkness, and take care.
Love,
